Quick Savory Scones
Scared of Yeast or no time for Sourdough - This Quick Savory Scone recipe is perfect.
260g plain flour
1tsp salt
1tsp breadsoda
50g butter cubed
200ml approx butter milk
3/4 tsp paprika
40g grated Manchego separated to 30 and 10 (or other hard cheese of choice!)
1tsp of dried mixed herbs or 1tbsp chopped fresh garden herbs like chives, thyme, dill, oregano
Makes 6 - Oven at 170C
Add flour, salt,bread soda, paprika, 30g cheeseand herbs to a bowl, mix lightly to combine.
Add the butter and gently rub in until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs
Make a well in the centre and add almost all the milk, bring together to a not too sticky dough
Add more milk if needed.
Tip out onto a floured counter top, sprinkle with a little flour and lightly knead to bring together.
Cut into 6, place on a lined baking tray, top with a little milk and the reserved manchego
Bake for about 15 minutes until golden brown and cooked
